Editorial Standards
The standards we hold ourselves to and the policies that govern our work. Updated when our practices change.
Marijuana.news editorial standards govern how we report on cannabis policy, business, science, and operators. Coverage is editorially independent of advertisers and members. Stories are sourced to primary documents wherever possible. Anonymous sources are used sparingly. AI tools are used for research and editing, never to generate publishable reporting. Errors are corrected promptly and disclosed publicly. Conflicts of interest are disclosed at the article level. The full policy is below.
Independence
Marijuana.news is editorially independent. The newsroom does not coordinate coverage with advertisers, sponsors, or subscribers. Sponsored content is created separately from the newsroom and clearly labeled. Advertising relationships do not influence what we cover or how we cover it.
Sourcing
We prefer primary documents to characterizations of them. Where a story rests on a filing, regulator notice, court record, earnings release, or scientific paper, we link to the source. Anonymous sources are used sparingly, only when the public interest stakes warrant it, and only after we have verified the information through other means.
Health and science claims
Cannabis is a developing area of clinical science. We report on peer reviewed research, preprints (clearly labeled), and regulatory action on health claims. We do not make therapeutic claims about specific products, brands, or cannabinoids. We distinguish clearly between adult use and medical contexts.
Conflicts of interest
Staff and regular contributors disclose financial holdings, board roles, advisory positions, and family relationships that could create the appearance of a conflict in cannabis or adjacent sectors. Reporters do not cover companies in which they hold equity.
Use of AI tools
We use AI assisted tools for research, structured data formatting, transcription, and editing. Every published article is reviewed and signed off by a human editor. We do not publish raw AI generated text as reporting. Articles that use AI generated imagery or audio disclose that at the point of use.
Sponsored content
Sponsored articles, sections, and newsletter placements are visibly labeled (e.g., “Sponsored,” “Paid Partner Content,” “In Partnership With”). They are not written by the newsroom and do not appear in our news indexes or top story rankings. Sponsors do not see editorial coverage in advance.
Affiliate relationships
We do not place affiliate links inside news articles. Where affiliate links appear in clearly labeled buyer’s guides or product comparisons, we disclose that we may earn a commission. Affiliate revenue does not influence inclusion or ranking.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and disclose the correction at the bottom of the affected article with a date. Significant corrections are flagged in the next morning’s Daily Brief. Email corrections@marijuana.news with the URL and the issue.
Source protection
We protect sources who provide information at risk to themselves or their employment. For sensitive material, contact us from a personal device on a non work email at tips@marijuana.news. We will move the conversation to Signal or ProtonMail if needed.
Comments and community
Comments are open on free articles to verified members. Premium members may comment across all articles. We remove personal attacks, threats, harassment, and content that violates the law. Repeat violations result in account termination.
